Our fabulous eggs will be delivered again this week which could mean some GREAT news for our non-CSA members!  We are making them available to you as well as our current CSA members due to the overabundance.  Non-CSA members will find them in Locavore products under the CSA STORE tab.  You will be able to choose your pickup location and they will be paid for via Paypal only.

What's the progress at the new farm you ask?  We are still trucking along.  It seems that's been the answer for 6 months, but we are getting there!

It's not too late to sign up for your 2013 CSA membership.  Spring is knocking on our door which means nutritious greens are too!  Come join us for the ride!   Click here to get started:                                                                 http://www.silverthorn-farm.com/members/types

Hi Friends,

We have good news for those of you who are missing our eggs!  After going through a period of dormancy, the hens are back to laying with a vengeance.  The online store will be open through Tuesday for ordering eggs and will be delivered on Wednesday.

Click here to order: http://www.silverthorn-farm.com/store/silverthorn-farm-vegetables

Members who pickup at the Lafayette Great Harvest Bread Co., please go inside the store to pickup your eggs.  We WILL NOT be in the parking lot this time around.

Farm  & CSA News:

Seeding is in full swing inside the greenhouses this week!  The new wood burner is keeping temps so warm, it feels like Florida.  It's a nice reprieve from these chilly February days!  We will be working ground inside the unheated hoophouses this week as well.  The ground has finally dried out enough for us to be able to direct seed salad greens and more.

CSA memberships are still open and will continue to be.  There's still time to recieve that last bonus of 5% if signup is completed by March 1st.  Help support our farm!  http://www.silverthorn-farm.com/members/types

Thanks!

We are excited to announce a new partnership with Joe's Butcher Shop in Carmel. We will be delivering shares to our Carmel area members at Joe's on Wednesday evenings with a pick up time from 4-7pm. This location will be available throughout the summer, so Carmel area members will have the option of  mid-week pickup at Joe's or weekends at the Carmel Farmer's Market.

Due to the late addition of this new pickup for mid-week deliveries, we have decided to extend the 10% discount until Feburary 8th.

Farm News:

We are finally moving the equipment and tools to the farm!  This is a huge step in the right direction. I hope to have everything moved by the end of next week...short of the household items. The March 1st deadline is fast approaching but I think we will be real close to being ready!  We now have seven new structures up on the farm. The layout and design of the farm has been drawn and re-drawn dozens of time over the last few years! We are extremely happy with the final decision and can't wait to put it all to work this summer.

Our early tomatoes have poked through the soil and are looking good.  The long journey to that first red ripe tomato begins.

Have a great week,

Nate, Emily, Jensen and Macy

Hi all!  February 1st brings the deadline of receiving the 10% credit for signing up early.  This means an extra $53 or $33 for a full or half share respectively.  That's a lot of good food gone to waste!  It's as easy as clicking this link:                                 http://www.silverthorn-farm.com/members/types

Our farm depends on you!  The winter months are always a critical time for member signups as we are purchasing our seeds, soil amendments, etc.  The next deadline of March 1st will be a credit of 5%.  Signups after March 1st will not receive any extra credits.

The last two weeks have been spent finishing up the greenhouses and the main barn, which is where the washroom and packing room will be.  The farm store will be located in the main barn as well.  We have already seeded some tomatoes and peppers which put us right on track to have some ripe and ready to eat by mid-June!  Three of our four 150ft greenhouses have plastic.  The weather conditions haven't been perfect enough to pull plastic on that last one.  The wind has been our enemy!  The ground under plastic is still too wet to work which means nothing can be planted yet.  While we strive to have product available all year round, at this point it looks like April is a more realistic time frame to resume deliveries.  The farm move is putting a glich in our normal routine!

Speaking of the farm move (and I know we have mentioned this before), we are really at an all out sprint to get it moved.  March 1st has always been our goal, however, I think it might be pushed out a few weeks.

I have to take a second to brag on Nate (he would never brag on himself!), who works harder than anyone I know, by far.  He is a man who is honest and determined.  He is a man who doesn't take a day off; rain, snow, bitter cold, scorching heat.  He is a man with such a passion for farming, who enjoys being able to grow good, clean, healthy food for YOU!   We appreciate you Nate!

Check out the latest picture, taken from the rooftop of the house!

Enjoy the warm temps coming our way this week,

Emily, Nate, Jensen & Macy

With Christmas quickly approaching, we are delivering this week and the week of the 16th.  After that, we will be taking a break for the holidays that will extend through the month of January.

There isn't much to report on the progress of the Rossville farm.  We're chugging along, still shooting for our goal of moving March 1st.  If you see us, don't remind us that it is only 3 months away!

Have a fantastic week,

The brisk mornings and short days are definite reminders of the season. We have been lucky enough this fall to still be harvesting outdoors, but that will probably not last for much longer.

I am finally going to dedicate my time only to greenhouse destruction and rebuilding for the next two weeks. The house and barns have had so many projects that needed to be taken advantage of in fair weather; now the greenhouses are on the "has to happen now" list. With the weather quickly changing we have to be able to protect our young crops and get new ones growing. Can you believe that we start seeding onions and tomatoes in only 5 weeks from now!

The new farm is coming along, not as fast as I would like but it is getting there. Panic mode seems to be just around the corner as the spring season approaches and the house is still not on the "has to be done" list yet. We did get it painted last week during that nice stretch of weather, that was definitely an accomplishment we were glad to get through before spring. I hope to move the rest of our tools and equipment after the greenhouses are down here which is another big step in the right direction.

There are just SIX DAYS left to get our largest discount of the season!  All shares paid by December 1st receive a 15% credit. This is intended to be both an incentive and reward.
